(4 February 1825 – 27 March 1899) Myles Birket Foster 'stands as one of England's most popular landscape draughtsmen and as a painter in water-colour of great distinction'. Birket Foster was born in North Shields on the Tyne but was brought up in London and was apprenticed to a wood engraver. He took up watercolour painting after his 1852-4 tour of the Rhineland and became a member of the Old Water Colour Society in 1860. In 1863 he moved to Witley and it was from then on that his most typical watercolours were executed.

Joseph Wolf was one of the most accomplished natural history artists working in London during the mid-19th century The subject of the artwork is originally by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, RA (March 7, 1802 – October 1, 1873) was an English painter, well known for his paintings of animals - particularly horses, dogs and stags. The best known of Landseer's works, however, are sculptures: the lions in Trafalgar Square, London. Landseer's popularity in Victorian Britain was considerable. He was widely regarded as one of the foremost animal painters of his time, and reproductions of his works were commonly found in middle-class homes.

On the rear of the artwork in pencil: “Starting The Job”, Carleton Avenue, Wallington (SM6 9LW). Edward Ardizzone was born in the port city of Haiphong, then known as Tonkin, in the north of French Indo-China, Edward Jeffrey Irving Ardizzone was an English painter, print-maker and war artist, and the author and illustrator of books. Edward worked part-time as an instructor in graphic design at Camberwell School of Art and as a visiting tutor at the Royal College of Art. The British Library published an illustrated bibliography of his works in 2003. A blue plaque unveiled in 2007 commemorates Ardizzone's home at 130 Elgin Avenue in Maida Vale.
